Hanoi is wonderful - I wish we could share dozens of photos from the markets here - they are incredible! The city's architecture is beautiful, particularly in the French Quarter, and there are various ancient Vietnamese temples and pagodas. Hanoi is also the resting place of Ho Chi Minh - Uncle Ho was embalmed & now rests in a grandiose mausoleum (against his final wishes). A bit creepy, but worth the visit.
This is how one crosses the street in Hanoi: just go for it. The road is shared by cars, buses, bicycles, cyclos (a sort of tricycle chariot for hire), hundreds of scooters, pedestrians and street merchants. There are often four-way intersections with no lights or street signs - the traffic just flows into itself in one loud, honking mess that somehow works. It is CRAZY.
